About
heir Open Test Kitchen is an incubator program for new chefs who lack the access to funding and connections that wealthier entrepreneurs bring to their new ventures. It includes both an affordable commercial grade kitchen space to work on their food product and begin selling, and contacts with mentors and experts in the field. Since the end of 2024, it's also the name of a restaurant and market.
Oakland Bloom also operated the popular spot Understory from 2020 - 2024, which won a James Beard Emerging Leadership Award, and a number of other successful food-based community projects.
